William W. McDermet

Associate

Mr. William W. McDermet is an Associate working primarily out of Milberg’s San Juan, Puerto Rico location. Mr. McDermet focuses his practice on consumer protection law, particularly housing and telephone consumer protection, as well as alternative dispute resolution and e-Discovery.

With a prior career in construction engineering, Mr. McDermet is a proud advocate for blue-collar workers, fiercely defending, “those who showed up every day for 25 years but were cheated by their corporate employer.” A life serving those less fortunate inspires his work.

Mr. McDermet worked in the Massachusetts Housing Courts for 17 years as a mediator, settling more than 25,000 cases of mostly evictions and foreclosures. His position as a Housing Specialist involved assisting judges and acting as a judicial building inspector and probation officer, all while attending law school in the evenings.

Mr. McDermet has litigated twelve Telephone Consumer Protection Act cases in the Massachusetts Superior Courts and Federal Court.

He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and is pending for the United States District Court for Puerto Rico.

In his personal life, Mr. McDermet is a Master Scuba Diver and Rescue Diver, who teaches diving to individuals with intellectual disabilities. He has been married for 34 years with two adult daughters. He enjoys bonsai, banjo, violin, and cuatro.

Mr. McDermet resides in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
