Heather M. Lopez is a Milberg Associate practicing out of the Bay Area/Napa Valley area where she focuses on data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer fraud class action litigation matters. With three years of litigation experience, Ms. Lopez is a dedicated advocate for consumers and patients whose personal information has been unlawfully collected or disclosed.

Ms. Lopez is an integral member of Milberg’s Cybersecurity & Privacy Practice Group, where she has been instrumental in bringing cases against HIPAA-covered entities that impermissibly disclosed their patients’ private health information to third parties, including Facebook, Google, and TikTok. Her practice spans a wide range of privacy and consumer protection matters, including data breaches, biometric information violations, information technology litigation, and mass arbitration.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Lopez spent over a year working closely with Milberg’s pixel tracking team, helping to investigate and litigate class actions involving the use of unauthorized tracking technologies on healthcare websites. Her work has contributed to holding healthcare organizations accountable for the mishandling of sensitive patient data.

Ms. Lopez earned her J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2021, where she completed concentrations in both Advocacy and Dispute Resolution and Business Transactions. During law school, she received a CALI Award in Remedies, the Pro Bono Achievement Award, and the Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis Diversity Award. She also served as the Diversity Coordinator for the Environmental Law Organization. Ms. Lopez earned her B.A. in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Ms. Lopez is admitted to practice in California and is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of California and the Central District of California.

Outside the office, Ms. Lopez is a former collegiate basketball player who played overseas in Austria after graduating from college and continues to play whenever she finds the time. She is an active member of her local Catholic choir, where she serves as a cantor each week, and volunteers with local youth sports teams.
